The Price of War

In the video today you saw the great price paid by those in the North and South. The Civil War was a bloody war, with 618,000 lives lost. There were many changes that took place during this time that changed the way the war was fought. Discuss some of the technological changes that became a part of the war strategy. How did Lincoln use these to his advantage?

  1. Some Technological changes that became a part of the war were the railroad were they used it to transport people and wepons. Also they used telegraph witch they had a mrse code which translated into a message. Lincoln used these to his advantage by sending messages to the people on the war sites telling them things. Also by using the railroad they tranported things faster.

  2. The biggest advantage for the North in the Civil war was the Telegraph, instead of having some bring a message down on a horse or a train a perosn could use Morse code to communicate with the Northerners fighting in the south. Another technolgic advantage fot the North was all of the trains that they had, the movie said it would take 22 days to walk to the south, but with trains it only takes seven days, this could help a lot with bringing supplies like ammunition or more people the help the North win the war. These were some of the advantages that helped the North win the war.

  3. One technology change that helped the Norht win the war was the the telegraph. Licoln used this new found technology to get messegaes to the front line quicker. It was like twitter or facebook in todays times. The telegraph would get the information out to our troops in a matter of minutes or seconds. Another piece of technology that helped us a great deal was the railroad. It helped get troops to were they needed to be in 7 days rather than having to walk which would take 2 months. Lincoln used these new inventions as an advantage by telling no one about his new found inventions.

  4. One of the technological changes that helped the North to get advantage was telegraph. From the movie, I know that the North could send message to their army with only few minutes while the south could only bring information down by horses or trains for several days. And Lincoln let his army use this unique technology that better than south in order to get advantage. And another technology change for North was the train. Instead of walking, the trains of the North could transfer the supplies for fewer time. That was also a really important reason that the North could win the war.

  5. I think the north's biggest advantage was the railroads. The railroads help war streagy because if they intercept a message they can go on the railroad and sneak attack. they have protection by the cart they are in. The tecnology changed by the telegraph because the south did not have that and Abe used that to his advantage for war. In the video it said it took them seconds to get the message that is fast. I think it would be hard to under stand Morris Code because it is dashes and crazy things

  6. Some of the technological changes that became a part of the war strategy were the rail roads, and telegraphers. Lincoln used the rail roads to his advantage by using them to quickly transport troops to different places. He used the telegrapher to his advantage by being able to send messages and commands all around the country by morris code.

  7. The North's biggest advantage was the railroad. If you know the telegraph was useful to plan battles as they were happening but if you did not have soldiers there because they have died because they didn't have enough food are because they died in the battle and you need more troops and they were coming they took too long you couldn't use the telegraph because they weren't there so the railroad helped out because it provides soldiers and food and ammunition to the soldiers and you had to be trained to learn Morse code. Which I'm guessing was a skill not a normal thing to know. I post looks like Patrick's so I guess I read with Peter.

  8. Technology that was an advantage to the North what the railroad and the telegraph. The telegraph is a piece of equipment that was similar to today's Twitter and Email. You pressed a button on the telegraph a certain way to create a certain message to where you are "telegraphing". This was an advantage because information got to armies and people who served in the armies better. Lincoln hid this advantage from the enemy. Another technological advantage the North had was more railroads. Railroads were extremely helpful for armies because they got to where they needed to be faster. If they didn't take a train, it could take a couple months to get to their destination. On train, it would only take a mere 7 days. What a difference!
