The New York Times article given to you in class updates you on the unrest in Egypt. On page two of the article it says, "The new generation, the generation of the Internet, is fearless." What do you think Shawki al-Qadi means by this quote? How is the "Internet generation" different than the ones before?
I think today's internet is alot diffrent then before. Today's internet you have Facebook and Twitter which has people all around the world. People can find out information way easier then before. The internet before social networking was alot harder to find information! You have to email or instant messaging which takes a while. That is why they turned the internet turned off. If you controlled Egypt would you of turned off the internet?
ReplyDeleteTodays internet is different because you can get information all over the world. The way you get information is also much easier.
ReplyDeleteThe internet is different from before because is it much quicker, eaiser, then how it was before there are alot more providers and search engines now.
ReplyDeleteThe internet generation is different than the one before because the internet makes communication easier for people. People can talk about anything they want to using the internet. On the contrary, the generations before internet were much more isolated. It was much more difficult for people to communicate even a short message.
ReplyDeleteI think that the internet has changed, and is different from past generations of the internet, because there are more websites that allow instant messages, and you can find almost anything on the internet. You can get information from one plane to another in a second, which is the reason the Egyptian government shot of the internet, so that the Egyptians could not get information to the rest of the word, and let them know what was really happening there in Egypt.
ReplyDeleteI think he means that with now the Internet being used so much news spreads very quickly. In the past, something could've happened three days ago, and a lot of people still would not know.
ReplyDeleteWell, what I think Shawki al-Qadi meant by this quote is that the generation of this internet is completely different from the generations in past years. Today, we have Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter, etc. These social networks have millions of people on them, and each person is in a way linked to another. News could spread around so easily with just one click of a button. It is kind of like a rumor, and how quickly they spread. Looking back to, lets say, 2002 and earlier, there was no social networking, no online magazines or newspapers, nothing that could display the news from anywhere in the world. Knowing that today there are many of these sites, Egypt shut off the internet so it won't spread. There are still many ways for the news and rumors to spread, though, for example cell phones. That one person you call could spread it to many other people.

The internet being used so much and is updated so often that you can know what is happening in New York when in Asia. Unlike a few years ago, almost everyone would go get a newspaper and that is how they would got their news.
ReplyDeleteThe internet has changed a lot, someone can have 500 friends on Facebook and 800 followers on Twitter and whatever they post can be seen instantly. Their statuses, and tweets can even be sent to a phone. Which makes it a lot easier for people to find out about information. And Pat if it was my decision I would not have turned off the internet in Egypt, people are going to figure out the next day on the news so what does a days difference have to do.
